中秋節(jié)，又稱月夕、秋節(jié)、仲秋節(jié)、八月節(jié)、八月會(huì)、追月節(jié)、玩月節(jié)、拜月節(jié)、女兒節(jié)或團(tuán)圓節(jié)，是流行于中國(guó)眾多民族與漢字文化圈諸國(guó)的傳統(tǒng)文化節(jié)日，時(shí)在農(nóng)歷八月十五；因其恰值三秋之半，故名，也有些地方將中秋節(jié)定在八月十六。

中秋節(jié)始于唐朝初年，盛行于宋朝，至明清時(shí)，已成為與元旦齊名的中國(guó)主要節(jié)日之一。受中華文化的影響，中秋節(jié)也是東亞和東南亞一些國(guó)家尤其是當(dāng)?shù)氐娜A人華僑的傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日。自2008年起中秋節(jié)被列為國(guó)家法定節(jié)假日。2006年5月20日，國(guó)務(wù)院列入首批非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)名錄。

中秋節(jié)自古便有祭月、賞月、拜月、吃月餅、賞桂花、飲桂花酒、等習(xí)俗，流傳至今，經(jīng)久不息。中秋節(jié)以月之圓兆人之團(tuán)圓，為寄托思念故鄉(xiāng)，思念親人之情，祈盼豐收、幸福，成為豐富多彩、彌足珍貴的文化遺產(chǎn)。(baidu)

the mid-autumn festival is a harvest festival celebrated by ethnic chinese and vietnamese people.  the festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the chinese han calendar and vietnamese calendar (within 15 days of the autumnal equinox), on the night of the full moon between early september to early october of the gregorian calendar.

mainland china listed the festival as an "intangible cultural heritage" in 2006 and a public holiday in 2008.  it is also a public holiday in taiwan. among the vietnamese, it is considered the second-most important holiday tradition. (google)
